H.E. the President celebrates the Legacy of Ms. Deborah Katuramu at her retirement Ceremony
H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, alongside the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, on Monday, 30th September 2024 officiated at a brief retirement ceremony for the outgoing Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, Ms. Deborah Katuramu, which took place during the Cabinet Meeting at State House Entebbe.
The occasion marked Ms. Katuramu’s final attendance of the Cabinet Meetings and also gave an opportunity to Members of Cabinet to pay tribute to her.
H.E. the President commended her for her exemplary and corruption-free record of service in government, presenting her with a Presidential award as a token of appreciation.
“I have not heard anything about her being involved in corruption,” he affirmed, wishing her a fulfilling retirement.
With a remarkable tenure spanning 49 years, Ms. Katuramu served in the Civil Service in various capacities, most recently as the Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet.
H.E. the Vice President also praised Ms. Katuramu’s efficiency and availability, stating, “Your motherly and professional guidance will be missed.” She acknowledged Ms. Katuramu’s role in mentoring many future leaders.
Mrs. Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Ms. Katuramu’s dedicated service, which began in 1975 as a Personnel Officer and culminated in her current role of Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet.
Mrs. Nakyobe remarked, “Her unwavering dedication will be remembered for generations. Ms. Katuramu’s professionalism, wisdom, and humility have significantly contributed to the growth and efficiency of the Public Service. Her commitment and institutional knowledge have greatly benefited the nation. We will miss her invaluable presence as she begins this new chapter.”
Reflecting on her career, Ms. Katuramu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including in the Ministries of Local Government; Culture and Community Development; and the Office of the President among others.
Ms. Katuramu emphasized the rewards of her journey and acknowledged the significant support from Mrs. Nakyobe in coordinating Cabinet Business.
As she steps embarks on her new journey in retirement, Ms. Katuramu leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a profound impact on the public service in Uganda.
